"They can because they think they can"
My Life Today:
A member of the Alberta High School Rodeo Association, Alberta Barrel Racing Association, Central Alberta Rodeo Association, Canadian Team Roping Association, and United States Team Roping Association.
Horse (or pets, or team):
Tater (pole bending, goat tying, barrel racing, breakaway roping and heel horse) and Legend (calf roping, breakaway roping, and head horse).
Education / Training:
I am currently a grade ten student at the Rocky View Virtual School in Airdrie.
Professional Highlights:
One of the biggest highlights of my rodeo carreer was winning my first buckle. It was at the first annual T.R.A.S.H. for kids roping school(TRASH stands for Team Roping At Schmidt House). I had been roping the dummy for many years but I had never roped off a horse before this school. I went from wanting to be a barrel racer to closing my eyes and dreaming about team roping. It was a life-changing experience. I'll never forget how proud I was to snap that shiny new buckle onto my belt.
Personal Highlights:
One morning, while I was getting ready to leave for a roping school my mom kept me back inside the house while the rest of my family and friends that were at my house at the time went outside to catch the horses. I was very upset when my mom told me that she had to fix my hair. "It's only a team roping school!" I said as I tried to get out of it. When I finally got out of the house I walked out onto the deck and saw him. Standing out on our front lawn, with a big red bow on his neck, was the cutest little horse I had ever seen! As all my family and friends stood around me smiling, that was when a realized the REAL reason for my mom keeping me in the house:"TATER"
I didn't know then that that horse would lead me to many wins in the rodeo circuit and make me into the competitor that I am today.
Awards / Titles / Winnings:
- 2004 T.R.A.S.H. for Kids Champion
- Qualified for Wrangler Junior High School Rodeo Nationals in 2006 and 2007
- Qualified for Alberta High School Rodeo Finals in 2008 in the Breakaway Roping and Pole Bending Events
- Qualified for Silver State Finals (Nevada) in Breakaway Roping in 2008
- 2008/2009 Carstairs Rodeo Queen.
Something to Think About:
My dad always says that before you can win at a rodeo, you have to walk in there and think "Hey, I've got a shot at this."
Inspired by:
My Mom and Dad. They have always supported me. Whether its driving me five hours to a rodeo, curling my hair for a rodeo queen event, paying my entry fees, and not to mention the gas bill! They have always been there with me through every experience I come across and they have always believed in me. Thanks Mom and Dad!
Looking Forward to:
I look forward to the next two years as I run for the Alberta High School Rodeo Queen and hopefully move on to compete for the National High School Rodeo Queen title. Also, I am in the process of training a horse that I hope will someday become a great barrel horse, maybe you'll see me travelling the rodeo circuit in a couple years!
Sponsors:
Rodeo wouldn't be the sport it is today without the help of sponsors so i like to thank them every chance i get. My personal sponsors are Mike and Darwin at Lincoln County Oilfield Service in Athabaska and Drayton Valley.
